Corey and Gretchen :: Jennifer O’Donnell Photographer, Portland Wedding Photographer

The weather report had threatened showers on Corey and Gretchen’s wedding day for a the week prior to the big day.  Sure enough, big, marble-sized rain drops fell from the stormy sky as I drove to the Organic Walnut Farm, where the wedding and reception was the take place.  My mind spun with plan B and C, thinking of alternate spots to find shelter and still get that “farm feel” in the photos.  We met the ladies in a quaint yellow farm house on the property where they commenced getting dressed in their teal dresses and red shoes – the wedding dress hung elegantly on a door frame, waiting to be put on.  Then, a miracle!  The sun came out!  Despite the sloshy, muddy ground, we were able to do all of the couple and group photos outside as planned!  The air smelled of cedar from the fire in the pot belly stove.  Peacocks and roosters crowed in the background while horses roamed in the surrounding fields.  Kids swung happily on the tree swing after the joyful and laughter-inducing ceremony, led by the bride’s uncle, and two loving people were married.  It was a touching and perfect day!

Jennifer and Kenny :: Mt. Hood Engagement Session

I met Jennifer and Kenny near Welches for some snowy engagement photos.  This winter has not been overly “wintery” so the snow that remained was starting to drop in big, heavy, wet blops of snow as we walked the trails at a little camp ground along the highway.  Though it was cold, Jennifer and Kenny didn’t seem the least bit chilly.  Their love clearly kept them warm as they giggled, smooched and cuddled together, sparkling white snow all around them.  I’m looking forward to their August wedding!  It’s sure to be over the top romantic!

The Rush Family :: Battle Ground, Washington Photographer

Prepare yourself for some electric blue eyes.  Ready?   Are you sure?  Oh wow, is this sweet boy amazingly cute or what?  Yeah, and the whole family shares in the blue eye awesomeness.  I might be a little jealous.

Lindsay and Collin :: The Oregon Golf Club :: Portland Oregon Wedding Photography

Lindsay and Collin were wed at the beautiful Oregon Golf Club in West Linn, admittedly one of my all time favorite wedding venues.  The rich, deep oranges and chocolate browns of the flowers and brides maids dresses reflected the warms and joy of the day.  Laughter, happy tears, silly dancing, and sweet declarations of love from family and friends made this day extra sweet.  Here’s to many happy years together for Lindsay and Collin!

Sisters :: Battle Ground, WA Photographer

These two sisters had me hopping and dancing about in this beautiful field, chasing them around in the beautiful angel wings their mama (a fellow photographer) brought along.  Between giggle fits, I couldn’t get over the sweetness that these two share.  They are so connected, so loving, so polite and so much fun!

Fisher Family :: Jennifer O’Donnell Photography :: Vancouver, WA Photographer

I have had the honor of photographing this family through two new additions to their family!  It is amazingly special to me to be trusted to capture moments of laughter, silliness and love through different phases of a family.  Plus, I get to see how big the kids have gotten, and that is just plain cool to witness!  :)

Autumn :: Jennifer O’Donnell Photography, Vacouver WA Photographer

Little B is six months old!  He loves his mama and daddy so much and has a smile ready for them at the drop of  a hat.  It was not raining (a huge bonus) this October day in Vancouver, so after a few indoor shots, we decided to go play at the park to take advantage of the colorful leaves that still hang on the trees.  One good windstorm and the trees around here will be nothing but sticks until Spring comes again. We laughed, B took a ride in his special little wagon that grandma gave him, and we got some joy-filled photos in the process.  I love this session.  I hope you enjoy it too!

Lindsey and Matt :: The Oregon Golf Club :: Portland Oregon Wedding Photographer

Lindsey and Matt have been together forever!  They’d dated upwards of 7 years by the time their stunning wedding at The Oregon Golf Club took place in late August.  The wedding day was picture perfect.  Warm, but not sweltering, the venue was amazing (as always), and the bride and groom were relaxed, joyful and completely head over heels in love.  They were surrounded by long time friends, the groom’s sister and the bride’s two brothers as their wedding party, who all did an excellent job at keeping everyone laughing and the energy ignited.  From the energetic dancing, heart felt speeches, a toast from the groom’s little nephew, and a silly photo-bombing golfer who randomly jumped into the groomsmen’s photos, the day was fabulous from start to finish.  Here are just a few of my favorites from Lindsey and Matt’s day.

Joy and Thomas are married (part 2-getting ready) :: Maui, Hawaii Destination Wedding Photography

Joy got ready at her sister Shannon’s house just minutes from where the guys were cooking the pig.  After we finished photographing the removal of the pig from the imu (see earlier post here), we went to Shannon’s to capture the ladies getting all glamed up.  It was a relaxed morning.  Poor Joy had a migraine. After a massage and some caffeine, Joy escaped to Fierce Salon and Day Spa in Wailuku, HI to have her hair done.  She chose a soft, curled style and was done in record time!  The stylist there was amazing!  After hair, it was time for makeup and dressing.  Joy’s beautiful sisters helped her into her dress while friends slipped her shoes and jewelry on.  It was a busy, but mellow morning.  We caravaned to the church right afterwards, where Joy’s dad performed the ceremony that would bind her to Thomas for life.  <3  But the ceremony photos will come in the next post.  Stay tuned!

Joy and Thomas are married (Part 1) :: Jennifer O’Donnell Photography, Maui Wedding Photography

This past week I had the honor of photographing Joy and Thomas’ wedding on the Hawaiian Island of Maui.  Wailuku, Hawaii to be exact.  Joy and Thomas actually live on the Island, so the festivities were based around Hawaiian traditions, family and local customs…..all of which I absolutely LOVE!  :)  First up was the cooking of a pig in an underground oven called and imu.  An imu is essentially an underground steam cooker.  The pig is laid on a wire rack that is covered in banana leaves, burlap, and more leaves.  Rocks are put into the stomach cavity to cook the insides.  The pig is then covered in more leaves and burlap and put down into the freshly prepared pit in the ground and covered with hot rocks.  The pig cooked all night, and the groom was up, watching to be certain that the steam kept rising from the imu, to ensure that it was staying hot.  In the morning, I was there to photograph them taking the pig out of the imu.  The groom and his family were there to dig it up, carry it to the trough and slide it out of the wire rack.  They then worked quickly, pulling out the bones and chopping it up to make the fresh kalua (or what we “haole’s” commonly call “pulled pork”).    It was super cool to watch this!
